Specifications

There are plenty of things that you should consider when choosing a sunglasses. You should look into its specifications and features. This includes the frame, lenses, magnification and also the accessories included.  So let us get started.

FRAME

The frame of Merry’s Unisex Polarized Vintage Sunglasses employs a wayfarer style. The design is simple and plain with the brand name marked on the side of the arms.

Inside the arms, MERRY’S brand name and authentication is etched. The end of its arms are also curve. The material slightly thins on the curvature and widens at the tips. There is a flat hole on the widened tips. At the other side of that tip, a rubbery patch is found.

The arms and the frame surrounding the lenses are joined by well-fabricated screws.

The temples are thin. The nose bridge is thick with a gap widening to 16 mm (0.63 in). The nose pads are just extensions of the frame surrounding the lenses. By the way, no additional accents are used in decorating the frame surrounding the lenses. And the available colors for the frame are black and silver.

LENSES

The size of the lenses follows the size of the frame.

Since the eyewear is wayfarer in style, the lenses are big and quite oversized for some people. It has a width of 56 mm (2.20 in) with A height of 45 mm (1.77 in).

The lenses are made of composite material and is set to be polarized. So it protects the eyes from scattered light and cuts off glare and haze. The available colors for these lenses include black, blue, green, red, and silver.

MAGNIFICATION

Sunglasses normally do not have magnification. This pair is not Rx-ready. Hence, people with current visual problems such as myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), astigmatism, and the like will feel uncomfortable in using these glasses.

Basically, this pair or eyewear does not aim to correct such problems.

ACCESSORIES

Merry’s packaging is a gift box with an envelope-styled glasses case, soft fabric sunglasses pouch, cleaning soft cloth, user manual, and a tag.

All of the accessories exude sophistication and gives the product a sense of high importance. The glasses case and the pouch both protects the sunglasses from foreign materials such as dust, dirt, moisture, oil, and grease.

Mechanical breakage due to impact and pressure, is also prevented. The pouch is commonly used to easily carry the glasses. The soft cloth is used for cleaning the surface of the lenses preventing abrasion.

Performance

The wayfarer style is common for sunglasses. Being oversized is not really an issue since it has already became a trend. Besides, having bigger lenses means having greater surface area covered; thus, more protection.

The design is plain and common so it suits any person no matter what face shape and size they have. It is a staple design to go by.

The simplicity waives off distraction. However, people looking for bold looks may find this pair too boring for them. If not for the brand and a metal strip on the side of each arm, this glasses would not be unique.

Ergonomics-wise, the arms are sculpted such that its curvature reaches up to the user’s ears. The inside of the arms near the ears is lined with a rubbery patch to prevent slippage as well as to cushion the head from any pressure.

In addition, this patch may also protect the metal part of the frame which is usually in contact with perspiration from the human head as sweat may trigger corrosion.

Being made of metal, the frame is expected to be durable because of the innate ductility, malleability, hardness, and toughness of the metal. It gives the glasses a weight of 6.4 ounces making it easy to carry and does not burden the key facial features.

The nose pads being just a mere extension of the frame restricts the freedom of the user for movement. It would be uncomfortable to any user if these glasses are used when lying on their sides. Nevertheless, since these are sunglasses, a user will usually be in an upright position.

The greatest disadvantage this feature could bring is the additional pressure on the user’s nose.

For the lenses, being polarized means the electromagnetic rays of light are transformed from scattered to a specific geometric orientation. The intensity and the amount of rays reaching the eyes are reduced. Thus, glare and haze produced are made bearable for the eyes.

However, additional functions such as ultraviolet (UV) protection is not declared for this pair’s lenses. These sunglasses are recommended to be used for fashion, shopping, driving, etc.

Pricing

Merry’s sunglasses, in whatever color the frame and the lenses go by, has the same price. Honestly, I think that it is cheap for sunglasses especially Merry’s is offering a 30-day money-back guarantee. Within that time period, customers can return the product in case dissatisfaction settles.

Plus the accessories included are also a huge plus.

Helpful Tips

It is always important to take care of your glasses. This will ensure that your eyewear will last for a long period of time. So here are some helpful tips that you can follow.

  • Don’t use any other material in cleaning the lenses. Only use the provided fiber cloth in order to prevent scratches on the lenses.
  • Always keep the eyewear inside the case. This will prevent any damages if it experience sudden fall.
  • There are plenty of choices for the color of the lenses, so you will not have a problem on choosing one. Its simplicity is also commendable.

Bottom Line

Merry’s sunglasses may come as cheap compared to other brands. However, the low price comes from the simplicity of the product design to the lenses technology.

The ergonomics of the product is above average and has put into consideration the utmost comfort of the users. However, the lenses just include the glare and haze protection and doesn’t give much attention to the protection of the eyes from much harmful UV rays.

Nevertheless, the price is still affordable that anyone can include it in their budget.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Affordable
  • Vintage Style
  • Polarized
  • Includes Case and Cleaning Cloth

Cons

  • UV rays is not blocked
  • Cleaning the lenses may take some time

  1. I just read your article about Merry’s Polarized Vintage Sunglasses.
Man these things are defiantly a throw back!
I love that classic style, but I have hit an age that my eyes now require me to wear a subscription.
Do you know if these are offered with prescription lens? If so any idea on the cost?

    1. Most polarized sunglasses are not Rx ready. Actually, I haven’t found any sunglasses have magnification on the lenses. But if ever I will find one, I will definitely make a review about it.
