Well, I suggest that you read this review in order to clear your doubts about it.

Product Overview

Product: MIDI Colors Blue Light Blocking Computer Glasses

Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon.com

Unique Feature: Super Light Weight; Variety of Choices; UV coated lenses

My Rating: 9.7 out of 10

MIDI glasses are rectangular-rimmed eyewear. The frame is made of polycarbonate material. It is thin all throughout the glasses.

The arms are thicker and wider at the joint connecting to the rim with the other end tapered. The features of the frame include a concave nose bridge line with nose pads extending from the eyeglasses’ rim. The arms are connected to the rim via dura-tight screws. No prints or notable impressions accentuates any part of the frame.

The finish of the frame is set to be translucent. Available colors are shiny black, matte black, light gray, light brown, blue, red, green, orange, purple, and brown demi (tortoise brown).

Over-all, the package is light with a weight of 14.98 g (0.53 ounces).

The lenses of this MIDI glasses follow the shape and size of the frame. All the lenses are rectangular.

MIDI glasses are anti-radiation glasses. The lenses block 43% of blue light and 99% of ultraviolet (UV) rays at 400 nm wavelength. Aside from which, there are no other special features mentioned for the lenses.

These models of MIDI glasses have a magnification of +1.00, +1.50, +2.00, +2.50, and +3.00. So you can choose the lenses that suits your needs. On the other hand, the +1.00 magnification is not that noticeable so people with no vision issues can use this one.

This magnification range is also not applicable for people with hyperopia (far-sightedness) or even astigmatism (a condition where the left and right eyes have remarkably difference in grades).

Yet, these glasses are made for reading. Slight magnification provides benefit for the ciliary muscle of the eyes. The eye muscle is often strained when staring at objects or images for a long period of time.

As a result, slight magnification relieves this muscle from too much stress preventing the eyes to twitch.

All glasses are shipped with soft portable pouch. The pouch helps to prevent foreign agents like moisture, oil, grease, dust, dirt, etc. from staining the glasses surface.

Yet, the protection provided by the pouch does not extend to the prevention from mechanical breakage. The glasses may still be broken when extreme pressure or impact is applied. They didn’t mention about a hard case or a microfiber cloth being included in the package.

The design and shape of the frame is simple, casual, and classic. Any face shape and size could relate to such universal design. Even though MIDI classifies their glasses as designed for women, this model can also be worn by men.

There is no femininity or masculinity expressed by the design, just mere casualty and business. Like the glasses being undiscriminating for gender, the design is also not age-specific.

The simplicity of the structure is contrasted with the variety of colors available for the frame. Every color may reflect the personality or mood of the person using the eyewear. The user could choose from the colors to match any outfit to be worn by at any occasion.

Moving on to the lenses, the glasses are classified as anti-radiation glasses. There are two types of radiation blocked by the lenses. First, the lenses prevent 43% of blue light from entering the eyes. It is true that not all blue light is harmful; some are beneficial.

The glasses need to filter harmful blue light at certain wavelengths. Yet, 43% is too low for blocking efficiency. It allows too much blue light to pass through; there would still be harmful blue light entering the eyes.

On the other hand, the user is still protected from the harmful blue light that comes from radiation-emitting devices like cellular phones, laptops, desktops, tablets, television screens, and even fluorescent lamps for long periods of time.

Some of the issues that can be prevented are eye strain, fatigue, dryness, soreness, redness, itching, irritation, dizziness, and headaches.

Exposure to blue light can also lead to sleep deprivation for this radiation disrupts the levels of the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin.

Second, the lenses prevent 99% of UV rays. The glasses are not confined being anti-radiation glasses for devices. UV rays are prominent in sunlight especially at places with high altitudes and those near the equator during 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The lenses may prevent eye diseases related to UV rays such as cataracts, macular degeneration, photokeratitis, and even eye cancer.

What I like about this glasses is the lenses remain clear and transparent unlike other anti-blue light lenses.

Whatever the color or magnification, MIDI glasses are set to have the same price. I must say that the price is reasonable considering the protection that it can offer.  The product also offers free shipping. However, warranty would still be negotiated with the manufacturer.

The price for these glasses with the offer available is relatively cheap compared to other brands. The price is at par with prescription glasses.

Helpful Tips

It is important to take care of your glasses in order to keep it for a longer period of time. So here are some helpful tips that you can follow and take advantage of.

  • Always keep the glasses inside the soft pouch. In this way, dust and oil can be minimized.
  • If you have extra budget, I suggest that you have a hard case in order to prevent breakage from sudden fall.
  • Only use a soft micro fiber cloth in cleaning the lenses so that scratches can be prevented on the lenses.

Bottom Line

MIDI computer glasses look simple and classic. These kinds of glasses are considered to be worn for casual wear without putting much thought to it. Because of the universality of the design and the relatively cheap price, these glasses may be bought for beginners.

Though, the low percentage of harmful blue light that may be blocked by the lenses is not recommended for long-term use. The glasses may still be worn for outdoor activities, especially during the day.

Overall, these glasses are not on the high-end and does not utilize sophisticated technology. These glasses may still be a good starter to practice the eyes for these types of glasses and let the user assess his/her need for such protection.

  • Reasonable Price
  • Anti UV
  • Transparent Lenses
  • Simple and Casual Design

  • No Cleaning Cloth and case provided
  • Blue light coating can be improved

By John Rico

Hi Everyone! I created this website to share my thoughts about the solutions to various eye problems that are caused by too much staring at digital screens. I also tackle about preventive measures to minimize the harmful effects of UV rays.

  1. This site is about one of the best niche sites I have ever encountered anywhere.

Eyeglasses for protection against harmful rays coming from digital screens, I must confess, is something I have never heard of, until now that is.

Thanks for the information John Rico. I now know where to go in case I have any of the symptoms mentioned on your website.

Does someone who suspects having this kind of eye issues need to see an eye doctor for a prescription, or is it bought straight from over the counter?

    1. If you have severe eye issues or major eye problems then I suggest that you consult first your eye doctor. If not, then you can just readily purchase computer glasses online or at stores. But I prefer buying online because of the variety of choices.
