Product Overview

True Gear iShield Computer Glasses claim to be a protective eyewear that prevents the harmful radiations from entering the eyes.

They say that it can be worn while using the computer, laptop, tablets and even mobile phones. It blocks the blue light which is the major cause of dry and red eyes.

In this review, we will take a closer look into this eyewear and determine if it is worth it or not. We will also talk about its major features and specifications. I hope that this review can help you learn more about it.

The frame of this eyewear is designed in a classical way. Since the glasses are made for kids and teens, the universal design being employed is on point.

This design suits any face shape and is commonly used by beginners to give them ample time to assess what they like and in what do they look the best. The size is larger than average for children since the eyewear is made for 14 years old and above.

The frame comes in light blue or green color with arms colored in black. With this assembly of colors, the front of the face is highlighted.

The colors are subtle yet eye-catching and is perfect for children. However, some may look geeky or nerd in wearing this. There is not much of a variety of colors to choose from, too. The frame surrounding the lenses is translucent. The whole has a matte finish which gives a comfortable feel to its surface.

The whole frame is made of plastic. However, the material is brittle and breaks off easily at minimal pressure or effort.

This is a disadvantage for glasses to be used by kids and teens since they have a very active lifestyle. The probability of dropping the glasses is high due to their carefree nature.

An advantage of the material is its lightness weighing only 3.2 ounces. With this weight, the user would be comfortable for long periods of wearing the eyewear. Their ears would not hurt much.

The size and shape of the lenses follows that of the frame – a classical and universal type.

The lenses also have anti-radiation coating. But instead of a yellowish tint, a very light blue tint could be noticed at its surface. Nonetheless, the lenses are doing its job to protect the eyes from sets of harmful radiation.

One of these is the harmful blue light that comes at short wavelengths. In radiation terms, the shorter the wavelength, the higher the energy it emits. This set of radiation is commonly emitted by cellular phones, laptops, desktops, television screens, and even fluorescent lights.

High energy radiation entering the eyes may cause eye strain, fatigue, soreness, redness, itchiness, irritation, dryness, headaches, dizziness, and many more problems. The color of the frame enhances clarity of the images viewed through the lenses by having a much sharper contrast.

This condition is perfect for playing video games and watching movies.

The lenses are ultra thin so the refractive index is not that heavy for the user’s eyes. They are made from polycarbonate (PC) material that offers transparency with high impact resistance.

This material blocks ultraviolet radiation, the rays that cause more serious and irreversible damage, such as cancer, to the eyes.

The lenses also have an anti-reflective coating which helps in reducing glare and flares. This property is important in night time activities. It also improves the eyes’ recovery time after exposure to intense glare.

True Gear iShield does not offer magnification in this set of eyewear. Users should choose whether to see accurately or to protect their eyes.

Since this eyewear is not a pair of clip on, it will be inappropriate and uncomfortable if prescription eyewear are worn underneath the glasses even though the lenses are ultrathin.

With that, people with grave cases of myopia (near-sightedness) and hyperopia (far-sightedness) are limited in using this eyewear. On the other hand, these glasses are made for people with the age of 14 and higher. Hopefully, the teenagers still do jot have serious visual problems.

The package includes a box, a microfiber drawstring bag, and a stylus. The microfiber drawstring bag is soft to touch and can also be used as a wiper for the lenses.

The microfiber material effectively removes stains such as oil and grease without scratching the lenses’ surface. The stylus pen is a product of marketing. Of course, who would’ve thought that a stylus pen could become an accessory for anti-radiation glasses.

Well, radiation is emitted by cellular devices. If these devices have touch screen, then a stylus could be used.

A noticeable reduction in eye strain and its effects is experienced with just days of using the product. Sleep is also improved. However, the brittleness of the frame makes the eyewear less durable.

Your work productivity is also increased. Because of the tinting on the lenses, red and dry eyes are all minimized. And since the color of the tint is not that bright, seeing the true color of the screen is not a problem.

One thing that makes this glasses outstanding is its price. The last time I checked, it is affordable and goes to anyone’s budget. Considering the effectiveness of the glasses and also the extra accessories included, I must say that you get the most of what you pay.

Anyhow, the user is not buying the product mainly for its stylus but for the service it offers.

Helpful Tips

It is always important to take care of your glasses so here are some helpful tips that you can follow.

  • Always keep the eyewear inside the protective case. This will ensure adequate protection on the glasses.
  • Don’t use any other cloth when cleaning the lenses. Only use the cloth provided in the package.

Bottom Line

True Gear iShield Computer Glasses clearly protect one’s eyes from harmful radiation. Health is a great investment especially for people at a young age. It is known that children are quite playful and active.

The frame that suits their lifestyle should be more durable than this one. However, it is unsure if these glasses will last long in their hands. In addition, the pricing is not that expensive for such product with simplistic design and basic functions of an anti-radiation glass.

It is okay to buy the product for the mean time to serve as practice glasses but it does not guarantee that it could last a lifetime.

  • Affordable
  • Lightweight
  • Good Beginner Glasses
  • Light tinting on lenses

  • Not that Durable
  • Cleaning the lenses may take some time

Hi Everyone! I created this website to share my thoughts about the solutions to various eye problems that are caused by too much staring at digital screens. I also tackle about preventive measures to minimize the harmful effects of UV rays.

  1. Hi I was actually looking for some eyewear for my younger siblings as I found them to spend a lot of time on electronic devices.
I am actually considering on this model but before purchasingI have a question. Does blue light blocking only come in 1 category or type or is there multiple types of it. Thanks!

    1. Actually it depends. If you are refering to the lenses of computer glasses then there are three types as far as i know. You can have the yellot tint, orange tint and transparent one.

There are also computer glasses that has magnification power in it. There are also clip on computer glasses that you can use if you already have your own prescription glasses. So there are plenty of types of computer glasses, it just depends on your preference on what you choose.
