My Rating: 8.9 out of 10

ZeroUV is styled in wayfarer, meaning they have large lenses in which the lower half makes up the most part. The plastic frame surrounding the lenses are thin but it widens to the temples and nose bridge.

Nevertheless, the frame remains flat. The nose bridge has nose pads which is an extension of the frame. Each of the temples has a metal strip acting as an accent for the frame.

The temples are connected to the arms by classic metal screw hinges. The arms are also wide and flat which curves slightly towards the tips. There are only two colors for the frames: black and black & tortoise.

As mentioned, the wayfarer style involves large lenses. Although the size follows the design of the frame, fortunately, the colors do not.

The lenses have a wider variety of colors to choose from. For lenses having a width of 54 mm (2.13 in) and a height of 44 mm (1.73 in), the color of the lenses available is only smoke.

For the black frame, the lenses are non-polarized. Meanwhile, lenses having a width of 58 mm (2.28 in) and height of 40 mm (1.57 in) come in green, red, silver, teal, dark blue and purple.

All of which may come as non-polarized but red, green, and blue also have polarized versions. All of the lenses claim to protect the eyes from 100% of ultraviolet (UV) rays. These harmful rays are rampant in high-altitude places and those near the equator at 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Some of the harm imposed to the eyes are various form of cataracts, photokeratitis, macular degeneration, blindness, and even eye cancer.

zeroUV has no magnification feature. It does not claim that their lenses are Rx- and prescription-ready.

Anyhow, these kinds of glasses do not aim to correct an individual’s visual defects. However, the failure for considering people with hyperopia (far-sightedness), myopia (near-sightedness), astigmatism, color-blindness, and the like, may reduce the market for this product.

People with visual defects comprise a large chunk of today’s population especially that the generation is exposed to various forms of harmful radiation. Visual acuity may be compromised when wearing these glasses.

Wearing contact lenses with grade beneath these glasses may be able to correct such problems.

The glasses only come with a soft pouch. It does not include a hard case and a microfiber cloth.

The pouch may protect the glasses from dust, dirt, moisture, grease and oil, etc., which may corrode or stain the glasses. Impact and pressure which may cause mechanical breakage are also prevented.

But I must say that the protection that it gives is not as much as a hard shell case could give. The pouch may also act as a cleaning cloth but it does not offer the same cleaning capacity as a real microfiber cloth would do. In addition, it is uncertain that the pouch would not scratch the surface of the lenses.

The overall style of the glasses does not appear unique. There are other glasses employing the same style even with a metal strip accenting the temples. However, the good thing is that these glasses can be easily paired with any outfit for different occasions, whatever the color of the lenses may be.

With the lenses and the frame being made of plastic, the whole assembly is light having a weight of only 0.8 ounces.

This weight is certainly bearable for the user making him/her feel comfortable. There is not much pressure felt on the key facial features like the nose and the ears; thus, extending the duration of usage. In addition, plastics do not corrode as metals do with moisture or acidic perspiration extending the lifetime of the glasses.

Ergonomics-wise, the curving of the arms tips as well as the little curve carved on it allows a comfortable grasp on the user’s ears which may prevent slipping. However, the nose pads being just an extension of the frame makes it hard for the user to lie on their sides.

Speaking of the lenses, it is good that zeroUV has an option for polarized or non-polarized lenses.

Polarization cuts the amount of radiation that may enter the eyes by allowing only a certain orientation to pass through the lenses. Not only the intensity of light is reduced but also the risk of exposure to harm.

The lenses have dark colors to suffice for the non-polarization of such. Anyhow, all of the lenses are UV-protected. However, there is no actual scientific testing done by zeroUV to prove their claims.

Because UV radiation is invisible, it is hard to assess by just merely passing through a certain amount of light.

One thing that I like about this glasses is its affordability. Aside form the protection and stylish frames, its price is a major turn on. The price of the glasses ranges from $10 to $ 15 depending on the color and type of lenses.

Polarized lenses has a slightly higher price compared to the non polarized ones. Plastic is not hard to manufacture allowing zeroUV to maintain low prices. The fluctuations in prices is explained by the size and polarization of the lenses.

Helpful Tips

I always share on my reviews some helpful tips that you can follow in order to keep the glasses safe and clean. This also ensures that the eyewear can last for a longer period of time.

  • Always put the glasses inside the pouch. This will prevent any damages if it undergoes unexpected fall. Dust and oil are also minimized.
  • If you have extra budget, I suggest that you include a hard protective case in order to maximize the protection that you can give.
  • Don’t use any other rough material in cleaning the lenses. Only use soft microfiber cloth in order to prevent scratches.

Bottom Line

These zeroUV glasses may have low prices but this is because of the ease in manufacturing and the low cost of the plastic material. However, the technology utilized by the lenses is still questionable. Also, the originality and the lack of sophistication of the design puts the product at a low end.

This product is okay for daily use but is not recommended for high-fashion gathering.

  • Plenty of Choices
  • Affordable
  • Lightweight
  • Simple Style of Frames

  • No Hard case and cleaning cloth included
  • Cleaning the lenses may take some time
